3/17/1940 – 9/25/2021
Glenn was born in Taylor, Texas March 17, 1940 to Ed and Vera Borkland as their 3rd of 4 children. His family moved to Austin, Texas in 1942 where Glenn lived for the remainder of his life. He’s a true Austinite and relished the Good old Austin days.
Glenn’s Love of cars and all things fast began at an early age. One of his first jobs was working at a gas station where he got to work with new fast cars on a regular basis. He continued his work with cars while selling car parts with the Wayne Bull Company, Jack Stableford and Bill Munday dealerships. While at Bill Munday Pontiac he worked his way up to a Service writer followed by becoming the Body Shop Manager. He quickly realized how successful he could be and opened his own company Heritage Body and Frame.
Heritage Body and Frame was established in December of 1986 and with the support of his wife Betty and son Jason it continues to be a successful business that serves the community through today. One of the things that Glenn was most proud of was that his business was family run and owned, in fact the name of the business was chosen based on the premise that the business would be his Heritage that lives on even after him. It was also important to him that Heritage remained an independently owned company despite many offers to buy out his successful business and merge into a national conglomerate. He took pride in mentoring and investing time in his employees being sure that their opinions were heard and their ideas were incorporated. He considered his employees part of his extended family and whether it was sharing a story of the good old days or joking around about something silly that happened recently, he enjoyed going to work every day.
Glenn and Betty were married in June of 1995 in Las Vegas at the Little Chapel of the West and in true Glenn fashion they were surrounded by fast cars, lots of friends and Vegas showgirls. Throughout their marriage they loved to travel with some of their favorite places included Hawaii, Pagosa Springs, Sturgis and Lake Tahoe. Glenn enjoyed bass fishing and was a member of the Buda Bass Club for many years. He also loved motorcycles and especially his Harley Soft tail custom and his fatboy. Glenn and Betty traveled to Sturgis for the annual ROT rally with friends for many years. Did I mention that he loved cars? From his 1970 Pontiac GTO to his numerous corvettes he loved spending time restoring them and driving real fast in them. One of his first purchases was a Model A that he saved up for at the age of 12 and restored it over several years.
He loved family and was fascinated with his Swedish roots. Glenn and Betty traveled to Sweden in 2014 where he met several members of his fathers side of the family. He knew he was very blessed to have his son Jason work with him and the knowledge that Jason would continue to run the business and make it his own while keeping it rooted in the principals that made it successful for all of these years.
Glenn is survived by his wife Betty Borkland of 26 years, his son Jason Borkland and his children Ryan Borkland and Slate Borkland, his stepdaughter Lauren Harper and her husband Chris Harper and children Ashley Field, Julia Field, Alexander Harper and Victoria Harper, his brother Mike Borkland and wife Laura McElroy along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and great niece and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father Ed Borkland, Mother Vera Borkland, Sister Gene Loomis and Sister Joyce Kotal.
