Davy grew up in Austin, Texas, or “South of the river” as native Austinites commonly say, and has always been incredibly proud to be an Austin original. He thoroughly enjoyed growing up in the 70s and 80s, focused on classic Austin fun during that time. He played football at Crockett High School, drove a Chevy truck, got into excessive amounts of mischief, and spent hours at the lake on the porch or on the water. He remained happiest while casting his line in the water, trekking it to a deer blind to wait for that perfect shot, or rustling up birds during dove season to bring home for supper. Otherwise, he could be found cutting a rug on the dance floor, twirling the ladies, or singing old country karaoke off-key. He was an electrician by trade, and recently retired from his position in the electrical workers’ union, Local 520.
Davy loved his family, fully and completely. His absolute favorite sidekicks were none other than his very own kiddos, Kara and Jacob. He carried infinite adoration for them, commonly hanging out, giving them a hard time, and showering them with his unique brand of love. He had utter devotion to his “Mother” and remained by her side throughout the entirety of his life, aptly fulfilling his role as her baby boy. He doted on his nieces and was doted on by his sisters, Gloria and Debbie, seeing as how he was very much their baby brother. He loved dogs so very much, his dogs by his side till the end.
He is preceded in death by his father, Gerald David Atkins, Sr. (who we’re positive was waiting at the gate to ask him, “What you doin' here boy?”), his sister, Debra Lynn Hollingshead, his nephew, Christopher Thorpe Hollingshead, as well as numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. He is survived by his children, Kara Noelle Atkins & Jacob Ryan Atkins, his mother, Evelyn Atkins, his sister, Gloria (Mike) Bashara, as well as his nieces and their children.
There will be a wake at Mike & Gloria’s (607 Quail Creek Drive, Round Rock, TX 78664) on Saturday, April 20th at 3:00 pm to celebrate Davy’s life with food and fellowship.
