He joined the Air Force in 1952 which took him to far away places like Korea and Turkey. While in Turkey he found he could dabble a bit as a DJ part time as Blazing Ben, where he got the opportunity to dedicate multiple songs and programs to one specific lady. After returning stateside he married that lady (his sweetheart), Clara, on Aug. 31, 1960 and then was transferred to Goodfellow AFB San Angelo, Tx.
Two years later, being the man that he was, he adopted two of her children Daniel and Ruth as his own.
By 1968 orders came again to Hof, Germany for the next 3 years. Returning to the states once again,
S/Sgt George Bennett brought his family to Bergstorm AFB Austin Tx in 1971 and retired from the Air Force a year later in 1972 after serving 20 years in the service. Before he was ready to totally retire, he worked for Shamrock, Texaco and became a courier for the banking system.
After retirement he enjoyed watching old westerns and sports. Watching college football all day on Sat and the Pros on Sunday was his favorite thing to do.
He attended Capital City Baptist Church with his wife.
George had a brother, Louie Bennett and a sister, Juanita Holland both deceased
He is survived by his wife Clara Bennett (Austin Tx), his son Daniel Bennett (San Angelo Tx), his daughter Ruth Moore (Austin Tx) Grandchildren: Jennifer Moore (Austin Tx), Tim Moore (Gatesville Tx), William Moore (Phoenix Az) Great Granddaughter: Samantha Moore (Copperas Cove Tx)
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, August 10, 2018 at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home, 14501 North Interstate 35 Pflugerville Texas 78660. He will be laid to rest with full Military Honors.
