With deep sorrow but profound gratitude, we celebrate the life of Mr. Gene Autry Simons, Jr., who was born on September 16, 1960, in Austin, Texas, to the late Mr. Gene A. Simons, Sr. and Mrs. Gertie V. Simons.
Gene was a beloved son, brother, husband, uncle, cousin, and friend—roles he fulfilled with love, kindness, and unwavering devotion.
At an early age, Gene dedicated his life to Christ and was baptized at St. Peter’s United Methodist Church in Austin, Texas, demonstrating his steadfast faith in God.
He received his education through the Austin Independent School District and upon graduating from John H Reagan high school went on to build a fulfilling career with the City of Austin Information Department, where he worked diligently for twenty-three years before retiring.
In his younger years, Gene was an avid softball player, participating in leagues and tournaments across the state. In retirement, he found new passions. He became a dedicated bowler, participating in numerous tournaments across the state and beyond. He also had an enduring love for sports, especially his beloved Dallas Cowboys—a loyal fan through every victory and defeat.
Above all, Gene loved the Lord and remained devoted in his faith until the day God called him home. His unwavering belief in God was a testament to the life he lived.
He is preceded in death by his father, mother, and sister Linda M. Manor.
Gene leaves behind a loving family to cherish his memory, including his devoted wife of thirty-one years, Charlotte Simons, his sisters, Sheila Simons of Austin, Texas and Zenobia Dorman (Austin) of Manor, Texas, and a host of beloved nephews, nieces, in-laws, his mother-in-law, cousins, extended family, and dear friends.
Gene’s presence, kindness, and faith will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy of love and devotion will live on in our hearts forever.
