On Wednesday, June 7th, 2023, Evelyn Walker Davison went to be with her Savior at the age of 92. Evelyn was the second of four children born to Lottie Mae (Jeffcoat) Walker and Garvie Walker in Fostoria, Texas on March 5th, 1931. Evelyn married husband, Van Ed Davison, during his leave from Navy boot camp on July 29th, 1951. She was a “Navy Wife” in San Diego California during Van’s time in the Korean War. In her lifetime she also lived in Cut and Shoot, Cleveland, Diboll, Lufkin, Houston and Austin, Texas.
Known as an avid prayer warrior and servant for the Lord, she helped start many ministries and church plants in central Texas. On moving to Austin, she helped start the International Friendship program at Hyde Park Baptist Church. Evelyn had a radio and TV program for 39 years called Love Talk. Evelyn edited, published and wrote for the Good News Journal for 25 years. As a writer she wrote hundreds of magazine and newspaper articles and was a contributing author in numerous books. Evelyn actively participated in the National Day of Prayer for 40 years, starting the first Governor’s Prayer Breakfast in Texas when former President George W. Bush was the governor of Texas, and was later named the National Day of Prayer coordinator of the year by Shirley Dobson. During George W. Bush’s presidency, Evelyn and Van were invited and attended a National Day of Prayer breakfast at the White House. Evelyn was also a speaker and the prayer coordinator for Florence Littauer with CLASS Seminars and the CLASS Christian Writers Conference. She participated with Florence all over the south and southwest.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her brother Jack and her sister Billie Jean Stephens Jones. She is survived by her husband of almost 72 years, son David Davison and wife Christy, son Danny Davison, three grandsons, one granddaughter, two step-grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, her brother Charlie Walker and wife Darline, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A private family-only graveside service was held in Liberty Hill, Texas prior to her Celebration of Life service.
