She was known as Elva Clyde by family members and Babo to her grandchildren. She grew up and attended school in Bastrop, working at Elkins 5 & Dime Store.
Elva married Henry Macon Roberson on December 5, 1945, at the First Methodist Church in Bastrop. They moved to Austin in 1949, to the house on Cullen Avenue, where she and Henry raised their two sons. They were founding members and very active in the Crestview United Methodist Church. Elva lived in the same house until moving to Georgetown in 2012 to the Wesleyan Independent Living Center. She told us numerous times she felt very fortunate to live there, and enjoyed playing bridge and Forty-two almost every night, while visiting with other residents on a daily basis.
Elva worked for a while at Camp Mabry, then had a long rewarding career with the US Department of Agriculture. She loved working with the farmers and helping them plan their crops. That was followed by several years as the church secretary at Crestview United Methodist Church.
When you think of Elva, you will remember good conversation, pink lipstick, and that she was always dressed up and ready to go anywhere with you.
Elva is preceded in death by her husband, Henry, as well as her parents, three brothers, Bill, Albert, and Dale, one sister, Wilma (who died as a child), and nephew Howard.
Elva is survived by her two sons and their wives, Macon and Vivian, and Mike and Debbie. She was beloved Babo to her four grandchildren, David and his wife Heather, Jennifer Stone and her husband Gary, Kyle and his wife Nicole, and Travis; nine great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren; as well as her nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless friends.
A private family service will be held.
