Edna Corrine Collier Tatum was the second born of Eddie Collier and Ophelia Mackey Collier on Easter Sunday, April 14, 1913, in Taylor, Texas. She was raised in Taylor with three sisters, Dorthea L. Collier, Eddie Marie Collier, Florence Collier and a brother Willis M. Collier.
Edna received her education in the Taylor Public schools. Upon graduation from O.L. Price High School she continued her education at Texas Deaf, Dumb and Blind Institute High School in Austin, Texas and Prairie View A&M University for Biblical studies in Prairie View, Texas and later attended Temple University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to pursue her post-graduate studies. After graduating she began her teaching career in The Philadelphia Public School System and the Austin Independent School District. She was a member of the Iota Phi Lambda Sorority, Inc. Cataloguing of Iota Women.
Edna leaves a legacy of love for the students whose lives she touched. She was an educator and teacher for 36 years.
Edna became a member of St. Matthew Church in 1950. During her membership she became President of the Choir. After moving to Austin, Texas Edna became a member at Wesley United in 1985. Edna worked on various committees and volunteered.
Edna married Braden Tatum March 12, 1950 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and to this union no children were born.
Edna is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one brother, three sisters, and a niece.
The Lord called her home on Sunday, January 16, 2011 at Heritage Park Rehabilitation and Nursing Home.
A celebration of Edna's life will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, January 22, 2011, at the Memorial Chapel of Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home in Pflugerville, Texas. Graveside services will follow at Taylor City Cemetery in Taylor, Texas.
Friends may pay respects between 5 and 7 p.m., Friday, Janaury 21, 2011 at the Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home in Pflugerville.
