Dorothy was born on September 28, 1940 in Needville, Texas to Adolph and Lorena Peters Dobesh.
Dorothy had many hobbies and interest; her favorites being nature and woodworking. Dorothy loved being outdoors working in her beautiful flower garden and was a member of the Elgin Garden Club. Her other favorite hobby was wood trim work and did all the wood trim in her church Elgin Church of Christ. She was also very good at creating beautiful flower arrangements and provided seasonal arrangements for her church for many years.
Dorothy also loved to travel. She took many trips with her sisters and brothers-in-law as well as her grandchildren.
Above all else, the essence of Dorothy was her Christian faith. Her faith in Christ sustained her throughout her entire life.
She was employed with the IRS when her and Richard first moved to Austin. Then moved on to work for the State of Texas Health Department for 21 years and retired in 2003.
Dorothy is survived by her daughter D’Arlen Cawthon, grandson Hunter Tumey and wife Maiko, great-grandson Noah, and great-granddaughter Miah Tumey, granddaughter Ciara Tumey and Thomas Plemmons, great-grandsons Hayden Hoyt, Cannon and Preston Tumey, step-granddaughter Miranda Yosack, step-great-grandson Dakota, great-granddaughters Lyla and Madaline, brother and sister-in-law Charles and Nelda Dobesh, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 53 years Richard Cawthon, father and mother Adolph and Lorena Dobesh, sister and brother-in-law Kay and James Cawthon, sister and brother-in-law Alma and Bobby Kucera, sister-in-law Paula Cawthon, and great-niece Kristina Cawthon Mata.
Dorothy will be remembered as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She had a wonderful personality and made many friends anywhere she went. She was also always a very welcoming hostess for many occasions. She was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed it. Dorothy will be greatly missed by all who were blessed enough to know and love her.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, March 15 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home & Cemetery, 14501 North Interstate 35, Pflugerville, Texas. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 16 at 10:00 a.m., at the funeral home. A committal will follow at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Cemetery in Pflugerville, Texas.
