Donald Young Blackmon

Donald Young Blackmon, age 70 of Round Rock, Texas was welcomed to heaven by his mother, father and brother on May 14, 2014. Don was born in Beaumont, Texas on October 6, 1943 to William Thomas Blackmon and Lola Margaret Oliver Blackmon and was a constant companion to his beloved older brother Dr. Thomas Oliver Blackmon.

After Don graduated from South Park High School in Beaumont, he continued to enjoy reading and writing. This love of reading and writing continued until literally his last week on earth with a request of one more five section notebook for him to write his thoughts. He also loved visiting with people as a member of the First Baptist Church of Round Rock.

Don loved animals and as a young adult lived with his parents on a farm in Colmesneil, Texas where he raised pigs and rabbits and helped with the garden. He dreamed of having his own farm in Junction, Texas where he enjoyed many wonderful summers with his brother Tom, cousins, aunts and uncles. Don had many important roles in his life but one of his most important roles was “guarding the Christmas gifts for Santa” so his nieces and nephews could not see the filled stockings or Santa gifts until the appointed hour on Christmas morning. He took this job very seriously and no gifts or stockings were seen before their time under his watch. Don’s infectious smile was recently acknowledged at his home at Marbridge Villa where he lived for the last two years when he received the “Best Smile” Award. Don, we will miss your laugh and smile.

Don is preceded in death by his mother, father and his brother, Thomas Oliver Blackmon, Sr. He is survived by his sister-in-law, Martha Hill Blackmon of Round Rock. Don was affectionately referred to as “Uncle Don” by a host of nieces and nephews including nieces, Terry Blackmon of Brenham, Shari Blackmon of Colorado Springs, and Lorrie Blackmon Townsend and husband Randy of Round Rock; nephews, Thomas Blackmon, Jr. of Round Rock and Michael Blackmon and wife Christie of Boulder; great nieces and nephews, Lindsey Williamson and husband Sam, Liam Blackmon, Hunter Hancock, Nolan Townsend, Kelsie Townsend, Davis Townsend, Alexa Tartaglini, Marissa Blackmon; and one great-great nephew, McClain Williamson.

Visitation will be held at Cook-Walden Capital Parks Funeral Home in Pflugerville on Saturday, May 17th from 1:00-2:30pm followed by a graveside service at 3:00pm.
