David Chris Gambrell, 59, passed away Monday, August 17, 2015. He was born May 13, 1956 to Glenda Raye Davison and Douglas V. Gambrell in Tulsa, Oklahoma. David was an amazing man that lived life to the fullest and was gifted in making all of those around him feel special. After exploring many jobs, David enlisted in the Navy were he experienced many ports throughout the Mediterranean and received training that would later lead to his career as a Senior Electronic Technician.
David married Joan Marie DiPrima on July 4, 1981 in Mt. Prospect, Illinois. Their 34 years together were truly a spectacular adventure as their family shared homes in Virginia Beach, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, and finally Austin, Texas. Together they had two sons: Trevor Chris and Kyle David. Their sons were the light of David’s life and he enjoyed teaching them all the things boys need to learn. Baseball was a large part of their summers as David coached many of their Little League Baseball teams.
Six years ago David survived an illness that caused him to have both legs and many fingers amputated. Despite these losses, David spent the last six years golfing, fishing and hunting with many of his friends. His love of music, travel, and parties were shared with many people, creating wonderful memories and much laughter.
David leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Joan Marie Gambrell; sons, Trevor Chris Gambrell and Kyle David Gambrell; sisters, Becky Rheude and Patti Wolever; brothers, Mickey Morris and Scott Renner and his wife, Carrie; in-laws, Carol DiPrima and Jan McCabe, Diane and Jim Fier, and David and Beth DiPrima. He was very fond of his nephews, Freddie Watkins, Chad Watkins, and Jim Fier; and his nieces, Toni and Taylor DiPrima.
David’s family will greet guests at a memorial visitation to be held from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, August 21, 2015 in the Capitol Room of Cook-Walden Capital Parks Funeral Home in Pflugerville, Texas. Private services to celebrate David’s life will be held at a later date.
