“Coach O’Dell”
Dave O’Dell went home to be with the Lord on February 22, 2012 at Christopher House in Austin, Texas.
He was born September 10, 1949 in Hico, Texas to A.C. O’Dell and Geraldine O’Dell. He grew up in Fort Worth, Texas and moved to Austin in 1978 to open Mama’s Pizza which he owned and operated until 1984.
Dave graduated from Texas Tech University with a Masters degree in Biology and Kinesiology. He was a proud member of the Sigma Nu Fraternity and cherished a true lifelong brotherhood with many of his fraternity brothers. He taught and was the head coach at Martin Jr. High School in Austin ISD for almost 20 years. He also taught at Westview Middle School in Pflugerville ISD and retired after 5 years. He touched the lives of so many and had a true passion for teaching and loved his students.
He was a true friend to all and as his friends say, he was everyone’s best friend and also had many best friends. He loved and was loved by so many, and he held close his Christian upbringing and beliefs. He was respected and admired for his hard work, honesty and work ethic. He played and excelled in most sports, and enjoyed anything that had to do with sports. He loved spending time with family and friends. He enjoyed fishing with his son and brother and playing golf with his numerous golf buddies.
He was the best husband, father, brother, son, uncle and friend. He will be missed by everyone whose heart he touched.
Dave is survived by his wife of 25 years, Susie O’Dell, his son who was his pride and joy, David O’Dell, his brother Jack O’Dell, sister-in-law Gay O’Dell, his niece Amber O’Dell, nephews Evan and Cole O’Dell. He also leaves behind to cherish his memory many brothers and sisters in law, nieces, nephews, and best friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, A.C. and Geraldine O’Dell and daughter McKenzie O’Dell.
The family would like to thank their Crossroads Community Church family, neighbors, friends, and Parmer Lane Elementary School family for their continuous love and support. Also, the wonderful staff at Dr. Kocs Oncolology for their care and the loving compassionate staff at Christopher House who ensured that he had a peaceful transition to his eternal home.
A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, February 25, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Hill Country Bible Church, 303 East Pflugerville Parkway, Pflugerville, TX 78660.
