Curtis graduated from Georgetown High School in 1948, four years later he met Frances Anderson and they were married August 1, 1953 at his parent’s home in Georgetown. In March 1955, Curtis and Frances moved to Austin where he joined the Austin Police Department. During his career he worked his way through the ranks as Patrolman, Sergeant, Senior Sergeant and finally Lieutenant. On November 30, 1985 Frances passed away after a battle with cancer and Curtis decided to continue with his plan to retire from the Austin Police Department which he did on December 31, 1985 after a little over 30 years of dedicated service.
After retirement, Curtis took up oil painting, with landscapes and seascapes being his specialty. He also took up the game of golf which he enjoyed so very much. He had 2 hole-in-ones, a feat he was extremely proud of.
Curtis met Mary Fletcher in January of 2008 and they were married on June 2, 2011. Mary has been by his side constantly as he battled Alzheimers in his final years.
