April 10, 1947 – April 14, 2025
Charles "Charlie" W. Evans, 78, of Austin, Texas, passed away on April 14, 2025. Born on April 10, 1947, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Charlie lived a full and colorful life marked by adventure, service, hard work, and a deep devotion to his family and friends.
The son of Jack and Germaine Evans, Charlie spent his early years traveling the world as part of a military family. His childhood took him to places like France and Hawaii, sparking in him a lifelong love for history, culture, and storytelling. During his service in the United States Air Force, he was stationed in Alaska — a place he fondly remembered for its wild beauty and wide-open skies.
Charlie was proud to serve his country in the Air Force before dedicating his professional life to federal law enforcement as an officer with the Internal Revenue Service. Known for his strength, decisiveness, and sharp wit, he was respected by those who worked alongside him and loved by those who called him a friend.
Though he was a graduate of the University of Arkansas, Charlie would go on to become a proud and passionate Texas Longhorns fan. Saturdays in the fall were spent cheering on the Longhorns with family, friends, and anyone willing to join in. Whether it was a big rivalry game or a quiet afternoon at the ranch, Charlie loved the tradition, the camaraderie, and the chance to holler for his team.
More than anything, Charlie was a family man. He shared a loving and enduring partnership with his wife, Cynthia Evans. Together for over 30 years, Charlie and Cindy built a life filled with love, laughter, and countless cherished memories. Whether enjoying their kids and grandkids, spending time together at the ranch, or simply sitting on the porch watching the sunset, they created a bond that was steady, strong, and full of joy.
Charlie was a proud father, stepfather, grandfather, brother, and uncle. He found his greatest joy in time spent with family — whether gathered around a table for a holiday meal, out in the field on a hunt, or simply enjoying a Texas sunset at home.
He treasured the bond he shared with his brother Robert Evans and sister Lou Ann Rago and held close the memory of his late brother Gary Evans. His grandchildren, Audrey and Gus, brought him endless pride and happiness, and he loved sharing with them the stories, wisdom, and life lessons he’d collected over the years.
Charlie was happiest outdoors, tending to his ranch, fishing, hunting, and enjoying good company. Some of his favorite moments were spent with his hunting buddy Johnny, sharing a cold beer after a successful hunt or a long day's work. He shared his love of hunting and fishing with his stepson Allen, and together they made countless memories in the outdoors. His back porch was always open to friends, family, and anyone who appreciated a good story and a warm welcome.
He is survived by his loving wife Cynthia; daughter Tara Smith; stepson Allen Pannell and his wife Scottye; brother Robert Evans; sister Lou Ann Rago; grandchildren Audrey and Gus; and many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Jack and Germaine Evans, and his brother Gary Evans.
Charlie leaves behind a legacy of resilience, humor, kindness, and countless stories that will live on in the hearts of those who knew him. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.
A celebration of his life will be held on May 2, 2025, from 2:00–6:00 pm at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home in Pflugerville. Military honors will take place at 3:00 pm.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the dedicated staff of Cedar Ridge Alzheimer’s Special Care Center and Comfort of Home Hospice for the kindness, dignity, and compassion they showed Charlie in his final months. Your care meant more than words can express.
