Peacefully and surrounded by his son and daughter and loving family Carl Henry Schoss passed from this life to rest in the loving arms of his Lord. He was the only child of Carl Henry Schoss, Sr and Marie Teresa Dorothy Dunn Schoss. He was born in Union City, Pennsylvania and moved to Beaumont Texas when he was 10. He graduated from Beaumont High School in 1955.
He attended Texas Lutheran College in Seguin where he met his future wife, Astrid “Dianne“ Creswell. They were married in 1963.
He received his BS degree in accounting from Texas Lutheran College. Upon graduation, he decided to study for the ministry and entered Wartburg Theological Seminary in Dubuque, Iowa. He was ordained in 1963 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Beaumont, Texas.
Carl served at First Lutheran Church in San Marcos, Texas and his wife, Dianne, taught school. During this time, their first child, Rachel, was born in 1969. They moved to Austin in 1971 where he served St. Martin’s Evangelical Lutheran Church for 22 years. Soon after the move in 1971, their second child, Andrew, was born.
In 1976, he took a sabbatical and went to Boston to study for his doctorate taking his family with him. He received his Doctorate degree in Church and Ministry in 1982 from Andover Newton Theological Seminary.
In 1995, he was called to develop a mission congregation for the ELCA in Austin, Texas. This came to fruition and in 1996 he became pastor of Lord of Life Lutheran Church, and it is from this church he retired in 2007.
Throughout his life, Carl developed a passion for singing. His beautiful voice gave glory to God in many choirs. Upon retirement, he joined Triumphant Love Lutheran Church in Austin and continued his passion for singing. He was an active member of the church and choir.
In 2023, after a prolonged illness, he moved from Austin to Wellington, Florida with his daughter. He slowly recovered and was able to become active in the choir at St Michael’s Lutheran Church. He quickly became a beloved member of the congregation. Having a difficult time recovering from a recurrent illness, he peacefully passed away.
He is survived by his daughter, Dr. Rachel Schoss Eidelman (Dov), Andrew Schoss (Michelle), four grandchildren: Avery Schoss, Benjamin Eidelman, Tinley Schoss and Abby Eidelman. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law - Sandra (Michael) Creswell and Nancy Gold and many nieces and nephews.
Services will be held on Saturday April 20 at 10:00 a.m., at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home, 14501 North Interstate 35, Pflugerville, Texas 78660.
