Brenda was born on July 27, 1942 in Chicago, IL. She then lived on Hamilton Field Base, Novato, CA; traveled on the General Darby ship to Earlestown, England; and then her single mother and siblings moved to Crystal City, TX.
She was first chair flute and piccolo in the marching band and graduated from Crystal City High School, Crystal City, TX with the class of 1960. She was known as "Beepy" or "Pity" to her friends. She attended Southwest Texas Junior College in Uvalde, TX and Austin Community College in Austin, TX.
She was an exceptional and devoted wife to LeeRoy Nelson.
Brenda was a single, hardworking, loving mom. She is survived by her children, Karen Yvonne Rodriquez (and husband Julio), Tammie Lea Nelson; William Roy Nelson (and wife Aileen), and Joseph Michael Nelson; her grandchildren, Daniel Bennett Rodriquez (and wife Jennifer), Julianna Adelita Clemmer, Lauren Victoria Kirkhart (and husband Gavin),Cole Michael Nelson, Andrew Mares Rodriquez, and Layla White-Nelson; her great-grandchildren, Daniel Paul Rodriquez and Illiana Louise Rodriquez; and her siblings, Jerry Leroy Pittman (and wife Vicki), George Henry Pittman, and Priscilla Anne Blaiss (and husband Dennis).
She is preceded in death by her mother, Mary Lavenia Irene Trotter Pittman Hayes and her father, Ivan Allen Pittman.
She enjoyed dancing, going on cruises, water skiing, playing musical instruments (piano, flute, piccolo, handbells), teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School, singing in the church choir, playing in the church hand bell choir, traveling, bowling in tournaments, going to concerts and plays, participating in the Capitol 10k, seeing ice skating shows, sewing, and knitting.
From 1956 to her retirement with the State of Texas (Manufactured Housing, Department of Housing & Community Affairs), she worked at the Guild Theater, Crystal City, TX; National Publishing Company (publisher of The Texas National Bus Guide), Austin, TX; Tupperware, Austin, TX; Calame, Linebarger & Graham attorneys, Austin, TX; Jerry Shiever, attorney, Austin, TX; Texas Department of Licensing & Regulation (formerly State Purchasing & General Services Commission); and the Texas Department of Housing & Community Affairs.
Brenda will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who knew her.
On May 25, 2022 at 1:30 p.m. there will be a visitation for family (2:30 p.m. open to the public), the funeral service at 3:30 p.m. at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home in Pflugerville. Following the service, she will be laid to rest at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Cemetery, which is adjacent to the funeral home.
