Bob K Newland went to be with the Lord on May 12, 2023. He died peacefully at 86 years of age at his home in Midland, Texas. Bob was born in Belton, Texas on December 28, 1936 to Virgil and Lorena Newland. Bob grew up in Austin and attended Austin High School.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Diane Raines Newland and her family – her sister, Jan Raines Romeis and her husband, Ron, and their daughters Julie Sanders & Carleigh Felker. Julie Sanders & her husband, Chris, have daughters Cora & Avery and Carleigh & her husband, Seth, have daughter Addeline. He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Larry Newland.
Bob joined the U.S. Army in April of 1959 and served in military service stationed in Korea & in Fort Hood until December of 1962 when he was Honorably Discharged. He returned to Austin and enrolled at the University of Texas. After 2 semesters he took a job at the Railroad Commission of Texas in Austin. He met Diane at the RRC and married her on November 21, 1964 in Austin. In 1974, they moved to Midland, Texas at the invitation of Jim Stimmel to join BTA Oil Producers. He accepted the job and remained in the BTA Production Department for 28 years. Many friends and acquaintances were made along with the great friendship of the Beal Families.
Bob had a passion for riding motorcycles and took many cross country riding trips with his close friends. His interest in photography increased after enrolling into Midland College Photography classes in 2005 and it continued for many years under the guidance of Professor Kent Moss. Bob loved nature and travel photography in northern New Mexico, Colorado and the Big Bend area. He also had many photo travels to Europe. His great photographs won numerous awards at juried art exhibitions including “Best of Show”. He certainly enjoyed the creative process of the picture to the finished print.
As all of his friends know, he was an avid UT sports fan, especially the UT Football. It will always be “ Hook ‘em Horns ”.
