He was born September 14, 1947, to Burnam (Barney) and Marrietta (Marge) Barnett in Dayton, Ohio and was raised in Stamford, Texas. He met and married Susan Marie Miller, his wife of 43 years, in Abilene, Texas in 1969. Together they had two sons, Steven James Barnett, of Belton and Scott Edward Barnett, of Round Rock.
B.J. graduated from Stamford High School in 1966, attended East Texas State University then enlisted in the Army in 1968. He became a helicopter pilot and spent 6 months in North Vietnam before being shot down. He received a Purple Heart and a free 5 month stay at Darnall Army Hospital at Fort Hood, Texas. After recovery, he attended McMurray University where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in business. He worked for Motorola after graduating and in 1979 started Design Communications in Abilene. He moved to Round Rock in 1991 building a beautiful home and oasis for his bride. Working for Matco Tools for 16 years he contemplated retirement prior to joining Hunter Engineering in 2006.
B.J. pursued many interests that provided for his family and incorporated his passion for flying, friends and adventure. He loved and was loved by his daughter-in-laws, Janet Barnett of Belton and Cassie Barnett of Round Rock and adored by his five grandchildren, Hannah Marie, Rachel Leigh and James Edward of Belton and Spencer Fredrich and Parker Susann of Round Rock. He also leaves behind his proud mother Marrietta “Marge” Barnett of Stamford and his loving sister Mary Pearson of Dallas. He has left us to join his daddy, Burnam “Barney” Barnett, in his next adventure.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, June 5 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. and services will be held Wednesday, June 6 at 10:00 a.m. at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home Chapel, in Pflugerville, Texas.
