Billy Fred Cox, Lt. Col. USAF (Ret) recently of Bryan, Texas passed away on May 18,2022 at his Watercrest apartment, seven days before his 92nd birthday. He was preceded in death by his lifelong love Peggy Cunningham Cox, and his brother Robert Cox and their parents Mr. & Mrs. Olan Cox of Denver City, TX. A native Texan from Denver City , nose guard of Mustang football, steer groomer and rancher of the South Plains, Bill graduated from Texas Tech University Agronomy after enlisting into ROTC. After courting and marrying his high school sweetheart Peggy, their first deployment was Roswell AFB,NM where he received orders to post-war South Korea for a year. Upon his return they received transfer orders to Anchorage, Alaska where Gregory Cox was born. Assignment to Kansas City, KS followed with the birth of Steve Cox, formerly a BCS general surgeon. Subsequent military assignments include Altus AFB, OK; Rapid City, SD; Minot, ND where Bill achieved an MBA at UND. The family was transferred to Wiesbaden, W. Germany for the final three years of the 60’s, before returning to Austin, TX at Bergstrom AFB. Bill served the US Air Forces in Saigon, S. Vietnam prior to returning home to Austin where he retired into real estate. After Bergstrom AFB closed, he and Peggy moved to San Antonio, TX for years prior to being relocated to Bryan in 2012.
Bill is survived by his younger sister Marie whose children Lisa and Kyle live in Houston and Corpus Christi with their own families. Greg has been in Washington state for decades near his daughter Alison with family. Steve has resided all over Texas, with children Matt now in Corpus Christi; Maggie formerly of College Station now Denver, CO; stepson Mason of TAMU and now Waco. There are many nieces and nephews, great-grandchildren galore! Dad, rest in everlasting peace with God!
A visitation for Billy will be held Saturday, June 11, 2022 from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home, 14501 North Interstate 35, Pflugerville, TX 78660. A funeral service will occur Saturday, June 11, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home chapel. A committal service with military honors will follow at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Cemetery.
