Audrey was born February 21,1938 in Del Rio Texas, where she attended and graduated from Tarver School. In the early 1970’s she attended Licensed Vocational Nursing School. After working as a nurse in Del Rio she made a decision to move her children to Austin where she worked primarily in psychiatric nursing until her retirement in 2000.
Audrey celebrated life and all it delivered. She was a listening ear for all she loved. She would tell you in a heartbeat to “just move on we’ll deal with it no matter what the outcome. Her wit and sense of humor was one of her many assets. You line ‘em up she’d knock em down. One minute she’d be checking you about something royally then what would seem like a blink of an eye she’d grace you with love and wisdom, allowing you to understand the meaning of “don’t sweat the small stuff”. She taught everyone around her to laugh, cry, get mad, do whatever you choose, and stand by your decision, but also importantly never forget to say “I’m sorry or I was wrong”.
As outspoken as she could sometimes be, she lovingly opened her home to anyone needing refuge , a hot meal a dose of reality or just something said off the cuff to make you laugh.
Audrey was lovingly known as Mom, Ma, Simmons, Sis ,Grandma Old lady, Memaw and Aunt Audrey by all who were gracious enough to be considered “friend” by her and not only be treated as family but became “family”.
Audrey loved her 2 dogs Romeo and Juliet, watching westerns, Perry Mason, music, reading, going to any casino, singing cooking and especially eating. She especially loved watching the birds from the back deck while giving certain birds names, her favorite being a house finch she dubbed “the red headed stranger” along with the hummingbirds, cardinals and blue jays.
But her most joyous moments were when she was surrounded by her family, laughing, eating and being able to add a little bit of shock and awe to everyone’s amazement.
Audrey is preceded in death by her mother and father, Alice and George Haynes, her brother Raymond Haynes, Son-in-law Gregory Ayers Sr., Granddaughter Heather Mitchell and Nephew Nicholas Crawford Sr.
Not to forget 2 husbands whom we are sure she’s giving them the stink eye as only she could do.
Audrey is survived by her brother William Haynes and her 5 children Jenise Ayers, Ronald Wright, Sylvia Davis, Allison Johnson, and George Wright and their offsprings.
Audreys Apple tree leaves 11 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren, 2 nephews and 2 nieces not to mention all those who frequented her home throughout the years in Montopolis Once she considered you family you were always family no matter what.
Audrey ended every night with…See you in the morning God willing and if the creek don’t rise.
