Alicia Galvan Barron, an extraordinary woman masquerading in a simple life, who documented her joys, her pains, sorrows, and even sales calls in spiral notebooks strewn throughout her home, died Sunday, January 28, in Austin surrounded by her children. She was 91.
She was born Dora Alicia Galvan on March 7, 1926, to Josefa Palacios Galvan and Fausto Galvan in Laredo, Texas. She married Leon Valadez Barron in 1949 in Pharr, Texas, and moved to Austin that year so he could attend UT.
She laughed a lot, sometimes to keep from crying, but she laughed. She was a strong woman who proved she could, even if told she could not. She saw goodness in everyone.
She loved reading, anything from newspapers to magazines to books, whether fiction or non-fiction. She enjoyed cool mornings outside watching the butterflies around her flowers. In the evenings, she enjoyed a very cold beer.
Hers was an American life.
She was preceded in death by her children: Leonora Andrea Barron and Leonides Barron.
She is survived by her children Anadina “Nadine” Josefa Schneider and her husband, Joe Schneider, of Round Rock, TX; Regina Alicia Barron Whisenant and her husband, Scott Whisenant, of New Braunfels; TX; Carlos Barron and his wife, Pam Barron, of Cibolo, TX; Elizabeth “Lisa” Vicenta Slater and her husband, Ed Slater, of Leander, TX.
She is also survived by her grandchildren Bryan Krugman and his wife, Laura; Jeannie Peavy and her husband, Keith; Randy Bock, Avery Bock, Ryan Whisenant and his wife Antonia; Sabrina De Los Santos and her husband, Jesse; Ashley Gutierrez; Ashlea McGuire; Amber Hanson and her husband, Brandon; Michael Baker; Skye Slater; and Nathan Slater.
She leaves seven great-grandchildren: Joey Krugman; Jacob Peavy; Roland, Skylar; Abrianna De Los Santos; Aiden De Los Santos; Emorea Dias; Emmett McGuire; and Elijah Hanson.
She would not have been so brief about the people she loved most.
All Services will be held at the Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home, Pflugerville, Texas.
