Age 98, died peacefully at the Fairhaven long-term care home on Sunday, July 19, 2015 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Rochdale, England on February 20, 1917, son of the late Ernest and Emily (Jackson) Schofield. Prior to immigrating to Canada in 1954, he served in the British Royal Airforce during WWII and worked at Dunlop Industries as an electrician. In Canada he worked at Avro Canada on the famed Avro Arrow aircraft and then for many years at Aircraft Appliances - military division as Director of Quality Control. After retiring he left Mississauga and moved to Peterborough where he was a member of the Liftlock Golf Club and served on the Peterborough Parks & Recreation Commission. During his retirement he enjoyed traveling to England to visit family and friends. He also took numerous trips by car and bus throughout Canada and the US.
To the very end he was devoted for 75 years to his loving wife Peggy who survives him. He is also survived by his son David and wife Claire of St Albans, Vermont, his daughter-in-law Pat Schofield of Penetanguishene, Ontario, his grandson Michael with partner Adrienne and their sons Cooper and Brody of Toronto and grandson Christopher with partner Andrea of Toronto . He was predeceased by his son Peter and brother Ronald.
A family gathering will be held at the Fairhaven chapel on Saturday, July 25 at 11:00 am to celebrate his life. Any friends, neighbors and Fairhaven staff are welcome to attend. His interment at the Little Lake Cemetery will be done at a later date.
