Reverend James Wylie “Jim” Moulton, age 93, passed away quietly on December 5th, 2023. Jim was born Oct 24th, 1930 in Epworth, Newfoundland, the eldest of three (James, Edward and Audrey) to mother Susan Moulton and father Frederick Moulton.
Jim spent his early years as a fisherman, postal manager and school teacher in Epworth and southern Newfoundland. He left to do his studies at Mount Allison, graduating in 1957. He then completed his studies in Theology at Pine Hill Divinity Hall to become a Minister for the United Church of Canada.
During his years of studies Jim spent a few summers working out west in Weyburn, Saskatchewan where he met his future wife, the late Myrna Mabel Taylor. They were united in holy matrimony May 11th, 1959 and were blessed with two children, Heather (Jeffrey) Brooks and Paul (Marie-Joseé) Moulton. Jim and Myrna were blessed with four grandchildren; Laura, Thomas, Alexandra and Liam. Jim was thrilled to welcome his great granddaughter, Mabel to the family in October. He will be missed by his sister Audrey Elliot.
Rev. and Mrs. Moulton spent the early years of marriage in Europe with Jim studying at the University of Edinburgh, Scotland, while summering in Germany. They shared many adventures during this time and throughout their marriage sharing their love of travel and discovery together.
After completion of his studies Jim started his Ministry in Goose Bay, Labrador. They then moved to southern Ontario where he ministered in Zephyr, Etobicoke and North York. In 1995, he and Myrna moved to Peterborough where Jim remained active in the ministry for many years, with time spent as a retired Minister at many churches in Peterborough and area.
Jim was a gentle and inquisitive soul with a powerful but understated intellect. He was one of those special people that left an indelible imprint on those he met and he will be missed by many.
In keeping with Jim’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Private family arrangements are with Comstock-Kaye Life Celebration Centre
