March 21, 1925 – September 9, 2021
Mary passed away peacefully in her sleep on September 9, 2021. Mary is now reunited with her husband Ralph, the love of her life, who she has missed deeply since his death in May 2019.
Mary was predeceased by her daughter Karen (1981), her parents Maude and Tom Jackson, her brothers Eric and Allan Jackson and sister Eleanor McArthur (nee Jackson). She is survived by daughter Susan Lloyd, son Eric Lloyd (Cathy), granddaughters Karin Van Vliet (Brian) and Janis Freeman (Matt) and great grandchildren Keira, Max, Sullivan and Aylin.
Mary was a caring and hard-working woman who loved her family and enjoyed sewing, baking, reading and volunteering in the community. She had a successful career as a registered nurse working for the Victorian Order of Nurses from 1946-50 in Toronto after her graduation from the Wellesley Hospital nursing programme. Mary and Ralph were married on September 9, 1950 and lived in Deep River until 1955 when they moved to Peterborough with their young family. Here, Mary was an active member of All Saints’ Anglican Church and held a variety of positions in both the Anglican Church Women, and Chancel Guild. She was a key member of the team that made Easter eggs as a fundraiser for many years. Mary also volunteered at the Civic Hospital Gift Shop for over 20 years and with Meals on Wheels in Peterborough. Mary was known as the “Muffin Queen” by her neighbours for the tasty muffins (particularly chocolate chip) she baked and generously shared.
Mary will be lovingly remembered by her family and friends.
