We are saddened to announce the passing of our mother on Friday, February 21, 2025 at Northumberland Hills Hospital, Cobourg in her 97 th year. She is now reunited with her beloved husband Gordon (2024) and granddaughter Kimberly Morton (2019). Margaret was a proud and loving mother to Jamie, Wayne (Elizabeth), Brian, Janet-Leigh (Walter), Margaret-Anne “Marnie” (David Colquhoun) and Glenn, grandmother of 17 and great-grandmother of 24. Margaret was a loving, devoted daughter and sister, predeceased by her parents Dr. Charles and Margaret Houghton (née Evans), her siblings Charles, Donna, Marydale, Earla and Janet. Lovingly remembered by her sister June, many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Mom was dad’s loving partner for 72 years. She created a warm and loving home wherever we lived and travelled. She and dad raised 6 children, showed us much of our country, the US and took us on year long teaching assignments in Guyana and St. Lucia. Our mother loved music, playing the piano and dancing with our dad. She was an avid puzzler and knitter and even when she was losing her sight she was still able to knit hundreds of bonnets for babies in the NICU.
The family will receive guests at Comstock-Kaye Life Celebration Centre, 356 Rubidge St., on Tuesday, February 25 th from 11:45 am to 12:45 pm, followed by a service in the chapel at 1 pm. In lieu of flowers, a donation to Northumberland Hills Hospital or Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated. Our thanks to the NHH Palliative Care Unit for their exceptional care and support. Online condolences may be shared at ComstockKaye.com
