Passed away peacefully at the Peterborough Regional Health Centre on November 16th, 2012 surrounded by all her family. She was age 87... Lois was born at home in North Bay, Ontario. She was the middle child of May (Rooney) and Anders Leslie Enborg. An older sister Beryl (Norm Dallin) and a younger brother George “Bud” (Vivian McDonald) have all predeceased her. She attended King George Public School and North Bay Collegiate and Vocational School. After graduating Grade 13, she was accepted into a Medical Laboratory Technologist’s Program at Toronto Western Hospital. After graduating she worked two years and was then hired by doctors at the Peterborough Clinic to start a medical laboratory. Lois and Cyril (Cy) Monkman were married in 1951 and would have celebrated their 61st Anniversary on November 24, 2012. They have two dear sons and daughters-in-law: Gordon Andrew “Drew” (Michelle Boulay) and Eric David (Elaine Rollwagen). And they have six loving grandchildren: Philippe, Julia (Alec Derghazarian), Sarah, Sophie, Laura and Emily Monkman and one beautiful great granddaughter Anouk Derghazarian. Over the years, Lois developed the lab and Cy started his own Insurance Brokerage. Lois retired in 1992. She was on the Board of the Ontario Association of Medical Laboratories for ten years and was President of the Peterborough Golf and Country Club the year they celebrated their 100th Anniversary. She also served two terms on the Board of the Art Gallery of Peterborough. She loved to knit and sew and passed these skills on to her granddaughters. She also loved to play golf, ski and travelled extensively with Cy. A private family service has taken place. There will be a public Celebration of Lois’ Life at Peterborough Golf and Country Club, 1030 Armour Road, Peterborough on Saturday, December 22, 2012 from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. If so desired, donations in memory of Lois may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or Peterborough Regional Health Centre Foundation.
