Returned to Head Office in 1974 in charge of all employee benefits programs. After 1984 enjoyed retirement in Trenton, ON, Winnipeg, MB, and Peterborough.
Beloved husband for 51 years of the late Mary Mason. Loved by daughter, Patricia Calder of Colborne, ON, son, Mike Mason and his wife Karen of Langley, BC. Predeceased by son, Jimmie, 3 years old. Will be remembered with great affection by his grandchildren and their spouses, Marta and Kevin Burt of Cobourg, ON, Matt and Rachelle Cooper of Guelph, ON, and Heather Mason currently of Toronto, as well as great-grandchildren, Cole, Danika, Rowan, and Aviva, and 16 nieces and nephews. Lindsay is also survived by his sister, Dorothy Douglas, and predeceased by his sisters, Ruth Goldsmith and Betty Stirrett.
Lindsay actively offered his expertise and leadership in service to the Anglican Church, Rotary Club, Kiwanis Club, and Seniors in Action, in a list of positions and projects too numerous to mention. He enjoyed killer bridge games and ping pong, mediocre golf and bowling, corny puns, writing crazy poetry, telling stories with flourish, singing with gusto, arguing politics with his brother-in-law, Phillip Calder, savoring naughty jokes with his beloved mother-in-law, Agnes Calder, and teaching his grandchildren by example how to have fun. His interests included reading, love of nature, bird feeding, woodworking, gardening, charity work, current events, practical jokes, and summers at the cottage.
Lindsay was a role model for his children in integrity, generosity, and setting personal goals. His sense of humour, zinging wit, affectionate warmth, and love of music remained dominant character traits. In the end, his patience, acceptance, and endurance were awe inspiring.
The family would like to express their profound gratitude to the entire team of nurses and support staff at St. Joseph’s at Fleming Long Term Care Facility and Peterborough Manor for their compassionate and constant care of Lindsay over the last years of his life.
A Celebration of Lindsay’s Life will be held in the Comstock Funeral Home Chapel, 356 Rubidge St., Peterborough on Saturday, February 5 at 2 pm. Visitation at 1:30 pm, reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations to Arthritis or Alzheimer’s research in Lindsay Mason’s name would be appreciated by the family. Online condolences may be expressed at www.comstockfuneralhome.com .
