1939-2022
Gordon Henderson, born in Newcastle Bridge, New Brunswick, peacefully passed in his 83rd year on September 27, 2022 at St. Joseph’s at Fleming in Peterborough, with his wife Liz by his side.
Gord will be fondly remembered by his family, friends and former students for his unwavering kindness, witty sense of humour and his love of capturing the great outdoors with his camera, whether he was hiking in Algonquin Park or paddling the waterways in his canoe, or on one of our many trips from coast to coast across Canada. Newfoundland and the Yukon were two of his favourite areas to photograph.
Gord and Liz and our boys, Brent and Ross, crisscrossed Canada several times with our nylon tents. Exploring Haida Gwaii, the Yukon and Alaska, paddling on Lake Louise, enjoying Farm Vacations in Saskatchewan, three trips to Newfoundland and the Cabot Trail in Cape Breton as well as visiting family in Montreal, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island and Alberta.
He began his 35 year teaching career in New Brunswick, moved on to the West Island area of Montreal and finally on to Peterborough and Millbrook for the last 27 years. He enjoyed working with his students whether in the classroom or on class trips or extra-curricular activities.
Gord was a loving, devoted husband, son, brother, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was predeceased by his mother Phoebe, father John, brother Bill, sisters Janet and Sheila and his sons Brent (2003) and Ross (2004). He will be sorely missed by his wife of 56 years Liz, daughter-in-law Melissa , and grandsons Hayden and Connor and family. He is also survived by his sister Jean Dunnett and family in Oromocto, New Brunswick, sister Margaret Shears and family in St. John’s, Newfoundland, brother Andy Henderson and family in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island and brother-in-law John Watson and family in Calgary, Alberta.
