To Jeri, Joy and the entire Panabaker/Brick family. I have just recently been made aware of your loss, please accept our deepest and sincere condolences on the passing of your father. Although it has been many years, we still clearly remember your wonderful Dad ... and that says a lot.

I was saddened to hear of Jack Panabaker's passing and wanted to extend my condolences to the family.

I fondly remember my first visit to the "Holy Land" with my friend John Brick in the mid 1980's.  There was a gathering of the cousins and half of Peterborough seemed to be there.  At the center of it all were Jack and Mary.  Mary's artistic sense in the food, refreshments, home and decorations were everywhere and Jack enjoyed it all so very much.  They all made me feel so very welcome.  Jack was a presence of calm, wisdom and assurance that just made everything come together so seamlessly.  I have to say that Jack's real middle name had to be "Hospitality".  Though the 8 bells to end Jack's watch have chimed, his qualities live on in his descendants.  I was fortunate enough to participate in last Saturday's celebration of Jack's life and the gentle grace notes that reminded me of Jack and Mary were everywhere.  Jack's family are in my thoughts and prayers.

Jack was a wonderful man and touched the lives of so many with his kindness, generosity, quick wit and charm.He's left behind an amazing legacy. We were proud to call him our friend. He will be dearly missed by many.

With you gone, Uncle Jack, it feels like the end of an era. You hosted so many of us over the years; your door was always open, we were always welcome.  We will miss your garden parties, the card games, the fun we had with our cousins over these past 60 summers.  Rest in peace, Commander, your memory lives on.

Many, many years ago I was a young and junior Sub-Lieutenant and uncertain about my future in the Navy. I had the great good fortune to spend a year in HMCS MARGAREE under the command of Commander Panabaker. He inspired me towards a career that lasted 38 years! I have never forgotten his quiet leadership and the encouragement he gave me. His style of leadership was the model I tried to emulate throughout my career. Under his command MARGAREE was a very happy ship and that period of my life I have never forgotten. I only saw him one other time during a visit to Amsterdam in 1972 when I was Executive Officer of HMCS ST LAURENT and I was glad to tell him then how much he had meant to me

My parents - Ralph & Earla Lindsey - were close friends of Jack and Mary - both in the Royal Canadian Navy, and later, in Peterborough (where Dad & Jack both worked at Crestwood Secondary School).  I have many fond memories of the "Panicmakers" (as my Mom affectionately called them) entertaining us and others at their home in Ennismore, and I guess the 4 of them are having a grand old time now, all together again.  My condolences to all members of Jack & Mary's family - I walk next to you in sadness as I too cherish the memories.

Mr. P hired me and my friends Warren Davis and Gary Houston in the mid-1970's to help finish their log home and do landscaping work. Those many, many hard working hours were some of the best I've ever spent in my life, and I wouldn't trade them for the world. We learned so much, and our lives were forever changed by the inspiration, guidance, and yes, love, from both Jack and Mary. Together they are again. I am forever honoured.

Jack is my Grandpa and I was fortunate enough to have been by his side the week before he passed away. He was full of life until the very end. 
I have so many wonderful memories with my Grandpa, it's hard to know where to begin. When I was little I loved going up to the cottage to be with Nana and Grandpa. Those are some of my best childhood memories. Grandpa would take me and my sisters fishing and he would have to do all the work because we wouldn't put the worm on the hook or take the fish off the line.  I remember going out late at night to dig for worms for the fishing trip the next day too. He would also let us help him in his amazing vegetable garden and we would pick veggies and eat them right out of the garden. He liked to make us breakfast too. He would cook up sausages and bacon and make us egg sandwiches and he was the one who showed me how good ketchup tastes on your eggs. I also remember several late night card games of bugger bridge played around the dining room table. He was a great card player. 
Later in life we would chat about baseball a lot. He absolutely loved the Blue Jays. He would never miss a game on TV. Last summer when we were visiting. my team, The Royals, played the Blue Jays and we wagered bets and decided that whichever team won the other person had to wear the opposing teams jersey. The Royals lost and I had to wear the Blue Jays jersey! He really got a kick out of beating the Royals! 
He was a kind and caring man who loved his family dearly. I feel so grateful that my girls had the chance to get to know him and love him too. We will all really miss him.

We were privileged to meet Jack at his home last Aug. Our thoughts and prayers are with all the family, especially our good friend and neighbour, Jo Georgiou.
