of the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph in Canada, Peterborough neighbourhood, entered into her eternal rest at Mount St. Joseph , Peterborough, on August 11th in the 58th year of her religious life. She was the daughter of the late Francis Joseph Heffernan and his wife Helen Kathleen Towns of Douro, ON. Along with the members of her religious community she leaves to mourn her brother Rev. Bernard Heffernan of Lakefield, and her sisters Monica Sullivan (Bernard), Carmella LeMoire (Laverne), Helen Condon (Vincent), Teresa Westlake (Roger), all of Douro, and Anne Heffernan of Peterborough and sister-in-law Jean Heffernan.
Predeceased by her brothers Gerald and Joseph. She is the beloved aunt to many nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews. Sister Isabel received her early education in Douro and Peterborough. She attended Peterborough Normal School and began her teaching career in country schools near Douro. She moved to Trenton, ON and taught at York Road School and at Breadner Air Force School. After entering Religious Life she taught in Peterborough, Ottawa, and Almonte in Ontario and in Clandonald, Alberta. Subsequently she returned to the East and taught in Lindsay, Port Hope, and Peterborough. Following a time in Vancouver B.C. her last ten years of teaching were spent in Cobourg, Ontario. She retired to Mount St. Joseph in 1998. She was noted for her love of teaching and love of family. Visitation will be at Mount St. Joseph, 1555 Monaghan Road, on Wednesday, August 14 from 2:00 p.m.to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be at the Cathedral of St. Peter in Chains, Peterborough, on Thursday, August 15 at 10:00 a.m. This will be followed by interment at Highland Park Cemetery, Peterborough.
