Hans Friedrich Suss

Passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on March 27, 2014 at Empress Gardens in his 82nd year. Beloved husband of Lois who passed away in March 2013. Cherished father of Sara Suss and her husband Alin Lutz, and Kurt Suss. Dear grandpa of Nicole and Konrad. Predeceased by his parents, Kurt and Eva Suss of Konstanz, Germany. Survived by brothers Werner Suss and his wife Gerlinde and Walter Suss and his wife Ursula. Hans will be missed by his extended family here and abroad. Hans and Lois were devoted lifelong partners. They married in 1956 and continued to pursue their respective careers: Lois as an elementary school teacher and Hans at Trent Glass Limited, Peterborough as Plant Superintendant for over thirty years. They enjoyed life to the fullest and after retiring at age 55, embraced a lifestyle of sailing in Ontario, the Atlantic and intracoastal waterway aboard the “Konstanz” (out of Cobourg Yacht Marina). Hans had a life-long passion for the sport of fencing. He started as a young man in Germany and later coached the Trent University Fencing Team for many years. Visitation will be held from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at COMSTOCK FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION CENTRE, 356 Rubidge Street on Sunday, March 30, 2014 followed by a Funeral Service at 2:30 p.m. in the Comstock Chapel. Many thanks to the staff and doctors at Peterborough Regional Health Centre, especially Dr. Gillis-Doyle, the palliative team and his family physician, Dr. Romanowski. Lois and Hans spent their later years at the ‘Empress’ where they danced in their youth in the ballroom. Heartfelt thanks to all the wonderful staff at Empress Gardens.
