Died peacefully at Peterborough Regional Health Centre on Friday, November 26, 2021 at the age of 88. Born in Medicine Hat, Alberta on March 5, 1933, he was one of three children of the late Hazel Hall and Bernice(Batt) Stone. George was a husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was married to his wife, Alma Mary (Nethercott) for 65 years, until her passing in 2018. George is predeceased by his mother, father, brother Neil, sister Betty, loving wife Alma, son in law, Phillip and caring son, Mark. He is survived by his daughter, Carrie(Deer Island, NB) and her sons, William(Natasha), Luke(Jennifer) and Robert Webb and his former daughter in law Tamalea(Ottawa) and her and Mark’s children, Rachel and Ben Stone, as well as four great grandchildren.
George’s late son, Mark, worked alongside him in the family business of A.M. Stone and cared for his father up until his sudden passing earlier this year. In accordance with George’s wishes, some of Mark’s cremated remains will be laid to rest with George in the family plot so he will always be with his parents and continue to be alongside him. Tamalea, Rachel and Ben who took over his care will fondly remember George’s wry smile and quick wit. They wish to express many thanks to the PSWs who tirelessly supported George in his apartment until a few months ago.
Interment will occur on Wednesday, December 1st, 2021 at 1:30 pm at St. John’s Cemetery in Ida, Ontario. A celebration of his life will be planned at a later date. At George’s request, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada or Peterborough’s VON Active Living Program.
