WILKE, Erik Benno - B.Architecture-Carleton University, Member of Ontario Association of Architects, Founder Erik B. Wilke, Architect + N.E.W. Architecture Ltd. Erik was a cancer survivor of 4 years and a recipient of an allogenic stem cell transplant. Recently he experienced complications post-stem cell transplant. The severity and nature of Erik’s illness was incomprehensible to most as he down played its effects. He admirably worked throughout his treatments, always looked well and never complained. He was an exemplary, passionate man who loved deeply. His outlook was positive and we were always hopeful that there would continue to be options to extend Erik’s life. Sadly his life journey came to an end, surrounded by the love of his family on March 9, 2011 while receiving care at Princess Margaret Hospital in Toronto. His passions were fast cars, soccer, sailing and travel. He is survived by his wife, Rita Wilke (Polini) and their three children Stefan, Marina (her fiancé Roman Mahmud) and Andreas Wilke; his parents Benno and Marlene Wilke, and his siblings Marion Wilke-Whittington and her husband Allan Whittington, their daughter Emma Wilke-Whittington, Lars Wilke and his wife Christine Berka-Wilke, their children, Anais, Lucia and Hannes. We invite all who loved and cherished Erik to honour his life and memory through visitation at the Comstock Funeral Home & Cremation Centre, 356 Rubidge Street on Friday, March 18, 2011 from 2-4 & 7-9 pm. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Immaculate Conception Church, 386 Rogers Street on Saturday, March 19, 2011 at 10:00 am. As expressions of sympathy, donations to Hospice Peterborough, Residential Hospice Campaign, is Erik’s intention. In 2009 Erik was commissioned by Hospice Peterborough to prepare a development feasibility study for a 10-12 bed residential facility in which staff would deliver care that would meet the needs of patients and their families as they faced their end of life journey. Hospice has also been a friend and strong support to our family throughout Erik’s treatment. To learn more about this initiative please visit, www.hospicepeterborough.org/residential.php
