Peacefully in Peterborough, on December 15, 2020, at the age of 97, after a life filled with laughter, happy memories and an undying love of her husband Gordon and of the wonderful family they created together. Beloved wife of the late Gordon Fielding Howarth. Loving mother of David (Elaine (and the late Peggy)), Susan Salusbury (Mark), Barbara MacQueen (Bill), Alice Howarth (Ross Leeder), and Eric (Milena Tresnak). Proud grandmother of 12, great-grandmother of 12 and great-great-grandmother of 3. Dear sister of Walter Burningham (Karen and the late Rita). Predeceased by her sisters Dorothy Brown (Jack), Joan Barker (Norm) and brother-in-law Jack Howarth (Therese). Greatly missed by many nieces and nephews, relatives and friends.
Known as Molly for most of her life, a nickname given to her by her mother, Molly met Gordon, the love of her life, while working as a bank teller in 1941. In 1945, when Gordon returned from his war service in England, they were married. During their 65 years of marriage, Molly’s focus was her family, first her 5 children, then their spouses and, to her great joy, their grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Molly hosted many gatherings of family, especially around holidays, and as her children moved away, she and Gord travelled to visit, to the Yukon, British Columbia, Saskatchewan, PEI, Bermuda and many parts of Ontario.
Later in her life, Molly reverted to her given name, Elaine. In keeping with her wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of her life and interment at Resthaven Memorial Gardens will be held at a later date. In memory of Molly/Elaine, donations to a charity of your choice would be appreciated by her family. The family sincerely thanks the staff, especially those on Pathway, at St. Joseph’s at Fleming for their wonderful care and support of Elaine.
