Dorothy Gloria Guerin Clarke

Surrounded by family on June 7, 2016, at Joseph Brant Hospital in Burlington, Ontario, after a brief illness. She was in her 89th year.

Predeceased by her husband Joseph, who first met the fiery redhead at St. Mary’s school in Campbellford, Ontario, the town where they both grew up.

The much-loved mother of Catherine Clarke, Gregory Clarke (Marie) and Marie Clarke-Davies (Charles Davies), Dorothy was treasured by her grandchildren Clare Beatty (Rob Caron); Janine Clarke (Jean-François Gay), Nicole Clarke (Matt de Vroome) and Neil Clarke (Jenna Smith); along with step grandchildren Evan Davies (Elsa Nealon) and Elizabeth Davies.

Dorothy will be fondly remembered by her sister Marjorie and her husband, Raymond Read, who provided her with much support, both before and after the loss of Joe. The extended Guerin family will also miss her.

A big thank you must go out to all the staff at the Village of Tansley Woods retirement home in Burlington, where Dorothy spent her last happy and contented years. She enjoyed the intimate, small-town atmosphere and her many new friends. You are too numerous to mention. We feel grateful that such a wonderful place was there when the family needed it. A word of appreciation as well to volunteers from Burlington’s St. Paul the Apostle Church, who brought communion to her each Sunday, and the parish’s Father Ed Henhoeffer, who provided her with spiritual support.

Cremation has taken ‎place. A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 am on Friday, June 17, at ST. ANNE'S CHURCH, 859 BARNARDO AVENUE, Peterborough, Ontario, where Dorothy and Joe were long-time parishioners. A reception will follow.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario or the Joseph Brant Hospital Foundation.
