SISTER BEATRICE ANDREWS Of the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph in Canada, Peterborough neighbourhood, entered into her eternal rest at Mount St. Joseph on April 16, 2016 in the 69th year of her religious life. She was the daughter of the late Thomas Andrews and his wife Teresa Grimes.
She is lovingly remembered by the members of her religious community. The last surviving member of her family, she was predeceased by her brothers Gordon, Elmer (Red) and her sisters Stella Easton and Peggy Brady. Sister Beatrice is also remembered by several nieces and nephews.
Sister Beatrice attended Peterborough Teacher’s College and taught primary grades in Lindsay, Old Chelsea, Cobourg, Peterborough and St. Andrews West. She was principal at St. Pius School (Peterborough). In 1973 she began the full time ministry of teaching catechetics in the Northern Deanery of the Diocese of Peterborough. She returned to the school system as Religious Educator Consultant in Estevan Saskatchewan, following which she moved to Regina to work in parish ministry. Sister Beatrice returned to Ontario, serving as Pastoral Assistant in Parry Sound. In 1991 she was appointed Vocation Director for the congregation after which she served as local leader in Peterborough. Mission work called her back to Vancouver and Burns Lake, British Columbia. During her retirement in Peterborough Sister Beatrice assisted in the Care Centre. Visitation will be at Mount St. Joseph, 1555 Monaghan Road, on Monday, April 18th from 1:30 to 4 and 7 to 9. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 19th at 10:00 a.m. at Mount St. Joseph Chapel. This will be followed by interment at Highland Park Cemetery, Peterborough.
