Born Cambuslang, Glasgow, Scotland. Peacefully, at PRHC, on Tuesday, June 3, 2014 just a few days short of his 93rd birthday. Caring Dad of Allan and his wife Mary and the late Cathy McCallum. Good grandfather of Angela Blewett, Brennan (Jordanna) and Jeanetta; great-grandfather of Christopher, Parker & Griffin. He was predeceased by his former wife Betty Anne (nee Adlam); parents Archibald (Glasgow Scotland) & Catherine (nee Brennan) (Tullamore, Ireland); and sisters Margaret, Cathy and Anne. He was an uncle to many nieces, nephews, and their families in Scotland. Allan was a WW II Veteran having served in the RAF overseas in India. He was trained by the Hoover Company in Glasgow in 1947; he immigrated to Canada later that year. In 1948 Allan worked at the Eaton Company in Peterborough before moving to Simpsons Sears as the Appliance Manager for its grand opening on Thursday, August 26, 1954. He opened his own business in 1956 selling door to door. He later used some space at Comstock, Grant & Loucks Furniture before moving to Hunter & Queen Streets. In 1964 Allan moved his shop to the corner of Sherbrooke & George Streets. In 1984 he made the decision to move to where the business currently operates at Brock & Aylmer Streets. Allan was an avid soccer fan and played for UEW and also coached the Trent U Team. He was a member for over 20 years at Kawartha Golf & Country Club, longtime member of Devil’s Elbow Ski Hill, member of The Aces of Harmony and a member of the Masonic Lodge for over 60 years. A special thank you to Robert Hanes, a longtime staff member and friend of Allan. Allan’s family wish to extend their appreciation for the care shown to Allan by the nurses and staff at Empress Gardens along with the doctors and staff of B4 at PRHC. Visitation will be held from 2-4 on Saturday, June 14, 2014 at COMSTOCK FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION CENTRE, 356 Rubidge Street. A private family service will be held at a later date. Memorial donation to Canadian Diabetes Association, Cancer Society, CNIB, Kidney Foundation or the charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated by Allan’s family.
