Ronald A. Meier, 65, went home to be with the Lord Monday July 11, 2011 at St. Luke's Hospital with his family at his side. Born in Toledo to John and Doris Meier on February 21, 1946, he graduated from Perrysburg High School in 1964, and the Ohio State University in 1969 with a masters degree in Agricultural Economics. While at Ohio State he was Chancellor of Alpha Zeta fraternity. He worked as the Manager of the Lawn Fertilizer Division at the Andersons prior to becoming the originating Director of the 577 Foundation in Perrysburg, OH. He married Janice Williams in 1968 and had two sons, David of Findlay, Ohio and Mark of Fort Wayne, Indiana. Ron bravely battled multiple medical problems after a motor vehicle accident 21 years ago, but continued to be devoted to his family and friends.
Ron was a man of integrity, passion, and intellect who was a devoted father, husband, and community leader. Everyone who knew him was touched by his life. His many accomplishments include serving on the Board of Lott Industries, President of the Board of Trustees of Grace United Methodist Church in Perrysburg, and President of the Board of Directors of Portage Valley Retirement Center, overseeing their successful merger with Otterbein Retirement Living Community. He also co-founded the Portage Valley Plant Company with his business partner, Rick Bryan.
He is survived by Jan, David (Cathy) and Mark (Kristin), along with 6 grandchildren (Nathan, Joshua, Jacob, Andrew, Stephen and Caroline), and many loving cousins, aunts, uncles, and nieces/nephews. He is also survived by his father, John Meier of Perrysburg, and sister, Beverly Euler (Allyn) of Tontogany, OH. His mother, Doris, and brother, Richard (Sally), preceded him in death.
Visitation will be at Grace United Methodist Church (601 East Boundary, Perrysburg, OH) Friday July 15 from 4-7 pm, with a memorial service at 7pm. There will be a private burial at New Belleville Ridge Cemetery in Dowling, Ohio.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are requested to be sent to the Ronald A. Meier Scholarship Fund, c/o the Eastwood Educational Foundation, Inc.
