Joe Marinez, aged 101, passed away peacefully in his home in Perris, CA on Saturday, January 7, 2023.
Joe was born and raised in Solana Beach, CA on October 17, 1921 to Eluterio and Trinidad Meza Marinez.
Joe voluntarily joined the Army Air Corp in 1943 where he courageously served as a Private First Class, stationed in the 13th Air Service Group, Ground Combat at Iwo Jima during WWII. He repeatedly said “I was very proud of my service to this beautiful country we live in”.
When he was discharged from the service, he and his first family, wife Delores and children Josephine, Daniel and Margaret, lived in Los Angeles, CA. After his divorce, a relationship followed bringing him a daughter, Esther. During his relationship with Lillian, Teresa, Joe Jr., Patricia and Belinda were born and raised in El Sereno, CA. He met his current wife, Minnie, in 1969; they had three children, George, Valinda and David. Joe had wonderful memories of living in El Sereno, CA, City of Industry, CA and Perris, CA.
He had various jobs, but what he exceled at was being a people person, and thus began his career as an admired salesman in the furniture industry. He retired in 1990 from Dearden’s furniture store in Downtown Los Angeles, where he worked for 17 years and loved his fellow co-workers and many repeat clients. He moved to Perris, CA in 1993 where he lived out his retirement years.
Joe enjoyed working in his garden and landscaping up until just a few months before he passed. He believed in keeping busy and active. When asked about his age, he always said “age is just a number, I feel great” and “God gave me a good life”. He also loved spending time with family and friends, going to the local casino and the bar life, meeting many “characters”, drinking liquor, beer and sweet wines were his favorite. He loved life, engaging with people, telling jokes, making others happy. He lived life to the fullest.
He was preceded in death by his father, mother, siblings Lupe, Ray, Jess and Mary, his daughter, Josephine, and grandchildren, Valerie, Jesse and Anthony.
Joe Marinez is survived by his wife Dominga “Minnie”, brother Pedro “Rocky” Marinez of East Los Angeles and sister, Delores “Lola” Luevano of Encinitas, CA; children Daniel (Rosa) Marinez of Carlsbad, CA, Margaret “Sukie” (Anthony) Duran of Covina, CA, Esther “Somie” (Steve) Sanchez of East Los Angeles, CA, Teresa (Alfonso) Aranda of La Puente, CA, Joe, Jr. “Joey” (Debra) Marinez of Upland, CA, Patricia “Patsy” (Jeff) Stokesberry of Upland, CA, Belinda “Beanie”(Steve) Veracruz of West Covina, CA, George (Lisa) Marinez of New Bern, NC, Valinda Marinez of Perris, CA, and David; 23 grandchildren, 51 great-grandchildren, 24 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Joe will be greatly missed by his family and many people that he befriended along his long journey. God Bless You, Dad, and may you forever rest in peace.
A visitation for Joe will be held Friday, January 27, 2023 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Miller Jones Mortuary and Crematory, 1835 N. Perris Blvd, Perris, CA 92571. Joe will be interred in the Riverside National Cemetery, Riverside, CA., at a later date.
