He was born on January 12, 1938 in Canton, Illinois to William and Esther (Turnquist) Stockman. On July 13, 1996 he married Angela Arnold in Peoria. She survives, along with two sons, Steve (Denise) Stockman of Peoria and Scott (Jayne) Stockman of Peoria; six grandchildren, Adam (Katie) Stockman, Melissa Stockman, Morgan (Trevor) Snyders, Emily Stockman, Dylan Stockman and Claire Stockman. Also surviving is his dear brother, Roger (Rose) Stockman of Galesburg. He was preceded in death by his parents and beloved dog, Misty.
Bill loved sports especially basketball and golf. He often reminisced about his basketball days at Valley High School where he still holds the record for the most consecutive free throws and his hole in one at Madison Golf Course.
He attended Bradley University while working at Caterpillar. He worked for four years for the Highway Department and spent 31 years as a claims adjuster for Allstate, Home Insurance, United Farm and Rockford Mutual until retiring in 1996.
Bill was a member of the Elks Lodge #21, Peoria Claims Association and several golf leagues. He was an avid Bradley Brave, Chicago Bear and White Sox fan. He was known for sharing a good drink with family and friends and was never shy about needing a “little” splash.
Visitation will be held on Monday, August 9, 2021 from 9:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m. at Davison-Fulton Woolsey-Wilton Funeral Home in Peoria. Funeral services will follow at 11:30 a.m. Deacon Robert Myers will officiate.
Burial will be in Swan Lake Memory Gardens in Peoria.
