William Murray Smith, 86, of Edwards, Illinois, passed away Saturday, March 23, 2024 surrounded by his family. Born July 24, 1937 in Peoria to Ralph and Faye (Murray) Smith, he married Pat (Patty) Miller on December 5, 1964. They would have cherished 60 years together this year, she survives.
Also surviving are two sons, David W. (Linda Paup); Darren R. (Jennifer Schrock); four grandchildren, Morgan, Brandon, Charlie and Parker, two step-grandchildren Alison and Jacob Bannister; and one brother Pete (Janie) Smith.
Bill was a proud member of the United States Army where he served from 1955 to 1958 including an extended station in South Korea.
Bill had worked for Canteen Corporation for 36 years beginning in 1965, retiring in 2001.
He loved his family and was actively involved in his children’s activities when they were younger by coaching baseball, and helping with Cub/Boys Scouts. Bill would always look for opportunities to serve and assist others. He loved to travel with his wife and friends. He was a history buff particularly the Civil War era. He enjoyed watching movies, especially westerns.
Bill's funeral service will be at 11:00 am Wednesday, March 27, 2024 at the Davison-Fulton-Woolsey-Wilton Funeral Home in Peoria. A visitation will be from 10:00 am to 11:00 am also on Wednesday at the funeral home. Mike Bell, Senior Executive Pastor of Northwoods Community Church will officiate. Entombment will be at the American Mausoleum.
