William Franklin “Bill” Porter, 84, of Peoria, passed away on Friday, May 6, 2022 at OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria. He was born on August 24, 1937 in Waxahachie, TX, a son of Rev. Cornelius C. and Verdie (Winfield) Porter.
Bill is survived by seven children, Bronetta (Thomas) Jones of Peoria, Rozette (Daryl) Stratton of Bartonville, Ruth Ann Jones, Lyvette Jackson, and Kandice (Tyler) Welsh, all of Peoria, Bridget (Cleo Mixon) Porter of Galesburg, and Chad Porter of Peoria; one brother, Horace “Dale” Porter of Peoria; his partner of 29 years, Pam Porter of Peoria; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Heidi Weicherding, five sisters, Lola Pat Staten, Betty Porter Adams, Vivian “Eloise” Williams, Anne Danage, and Delaphine Cannon; and four brothers, Sam “Sonny” Davis, Charles Davis, James Porter, and Thomas Porter.
Bill worked in the parts crib for Caterpillar, Inc. for 28 years, retiring in 1996.
He was a member of the Peter H. Clark Elks Lodge #483 in Peoria, and also a member of the R.O.M.E.O club.
Bill’s funeral service will take place at 10:00 am on Friday, May 20, 2022 at Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel in Peoria. Pastor Marvin Hightower and Pastor Cedric Shumate will officiate. His visitation will be from 9:00 am to 10:00 am also on Friday at the funeral chapel. Burial will take place in Springdale Cemetery.
