Born June 15, 1930, in Aurora to Lorenz and Vivian (Perkins) Richter, she married Ray M. Bishop in Peoria on June 11, 1949.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, one son, Michael Todd Bishop, one grandson, one great-grandson, and one brother.
Surviving are one son Mr. Larry (Susan) Bishop of Glen Ellyn, and three daughters, Mrs. Brenda Carty (Joseph, Deceased) of Peoria; Mrs. Kimm (Roger) McKenna of Germantown Hills; and Mrs. Janine (Clifford) Casey of Portland, Oregon; eleven grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and two sisters Mrs. Ruth (Raiford) Cobbs and Ms. Carol Clune of Peoria.
In her early career, she worked as a secretary for both Richwoods High School and Illinois Machinery. She was later employed at the Children’s Home. She then began a successful career at Caterpillar, Inc. where she worked in Engineering and Purchasing retiring in 1993.
Virginia was passionate about civic and social issues. She enjoyed memberships with the German Club and the Caterpillar Retirees Club, and Toast Masters. She also taught Sunday school and Vacation Bible School at Alta Presbyterian Church. She was an active member of the Parent Teacher Association at Wilder Waite Grade School where she served as director for many programs and plays. She also was an avid supporter of the Dunlap High School athletic programs.
Private services will be handled by Davison- Fulton Woodland Chapel. Burial will be in Swan Lake Memory Gardens. Rev. Mike Shirey will officiate.
