Tom was born on July 20, 1921 in Peoria to John E. and Mary (Carter) Cassidy. He married Dalores Mahany on February 2, 1943. She preceded him in death in June 2006.
Tom is survived by his children, Pat (Ron) Durr of Peoria, IL, Tom (Sue) Cassidy of Edwards, IL, Dan Cassidy of High Point, NC, Connie Cassidy of Morton, IL and Tim (Tonya) Cassidy of Bloomington, IL; 10 Grandchildren, Kelly (Dick) Bennett of IL, Amy Cassidy of IL, Angie (Chris) Cockman and Jennifer (Brian) Conley of NC, Matt and Joe Durr and Michelle (Joe) Fontana of Peoria, Lauren, Madison and Ryan Cassidy all of Bloomington; six great-grandchildren, Zachery Bennett, Megan Conley, Lucas and Ava Fontana, and Emily and Abby Cockman. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 63 years, Dalores; his parents and 12 brothers and sisters.
Tom served in the US. Navy on the U.S.S. Cabot during World War II. He then worked for Caterpillar for 45 years before retiring. Tom was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church. He enjoyed golfing and was an avid sports fan. Tom also coached basketball for St. John’s as well as little league for over 25 years.
Cremation rites will be accorded and a memorial Mass will be held on Friday, October 4, 2013 at 11am at St. Ann’s Catholic Church with visitation one hour prior to Mass. Father Terry Cassidy will be officiating. Interment will take place at a later date at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Peoria. Memorials may be made to St. Ann’s Catholic Church.
