Shirley was born on June 7, 1927, in Peoria to Philipp and Sophie (Max) Hoerr. She married Leo Gorenz on August 2, 1959. He preceded her in death. Surviving are one son, David (Kristy) Gorenz of Cary, NC; and one daughter, Barbara (Tom) Ting of Indianapolis, IN. Shirley was grandmother to 5 grandchildren, Elizabeth (Dan) Hiser, Emily (Paul) Moore, Daniel (Annika) Gorenz, Stephanie Ting and Samantha Ting; and 5 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are brother, Max P. Hoerr; sister-in-law, Marianne Roszell; and brother-in-law, Elmer Johnson. Shirley attended Glen Oak School. She graduated from Woodruff High School and the Wilton School of Cake Decorating. She then opened her own successful cake decorating business out of her parent’s basement. Shirley was treasured for her dedication to her family. A young Shirley was the babysitter of choice for nieces and nephews, selected cook for special company and family gatherings, and the driver of choice for family trips. In later years, she was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. The family wishes to thank the Lutheran Hillside Village staff and friend, Pat Jeramiah, for their loving care and support. A private family service will be held. Davison-Fulton Woolsey-Wilton Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Midwest Food Bank.
