Shirley Ann Baxter, 89, of Peoria passed away Thursday, November 30, 2023, at Carle Health Proctor Hospital in Peoria. She had been a resident at Buehler Home since December 2020. The family thanks the staff for their kindness and wonderful care.
She was born September 21, 1934, in Danvers, Illinois to James A. and Anna K. (Schuck) Hinthorn. She married Phillip C. Baxter December 19, 1953, in Peoria. He passed away November 4, 1994. She was also preceded in death by her parents; two sons, James and Roger; two brothers, William and Albert; and one sister, Evelyn Burden.
Shirley enjoyed years of bowling, both in Peoria and Camdenton, Missouri, where they lived after Phil’s retirement. She was a member of the USBC, and a member of the 600 Club since 1967. She and Phil also enjoyed years of traveling to warmer climates with their fifth wheel trailer.
She is survived by her daughters, Cindy (Billy) Halstead of Peoria, Sherry (Nate) Miller of Peoria, and Crystal (Douglas) Staley of Princeville; eight grandchildren, Angela (Adam) VanZuiden, Brianna (Alec) Hoerr, Cody (Kaylee) Halstead, Ashlynn (Steve) Kunz, Jimmy Baxter, Carly (David Vrabel) Halstead, and Phillip and Luke Staley; and three great-grandchildren, Callum and Adelaide Hoerr, and Rowan Halstead and a great-granddaughter due in March. Also, several nieces and nephews.
Her family was her life and she loved being with them.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, December 9, 2023, at 10:30 am, with visitation from 9:00 - 10:30 am at Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel. Burial will follow the service at Lutheran Cemetery.
