He was born on January 8, 1936 in Quincy, IL to Edwin and Mary (Graybael) Funk. He married Mary “Penny” Pittman on October 11, 1975 in Peoria. She survives along with one daughter, Lisa (Darryl) Steele of Peoria, two grandchildren: Jeffrey and Gabriella Sary both of Peoria, and his beloved dog, Maggie.He was preceded in death by his parents.
Roger was a graduate of Dunlap High School. He attended Knox College and Bradley University. Roger was employed at the International Paper Co. for 30 years until its closing in 1995. He later worked for Famous Barr/Macys for 15 years until his retirement in 2011.
He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He loved working in his garden and spending time with his grandchildren. Roger was an avid stamp collector and a huge Elvis Presley fan, with whom he shared the same birthday.
Visitation will be Thursday March 10, 2016 from 4 to 7 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 3:45 p.m. at the Davison-Fulton Woolsey-Wilton Funeral Home in Peoria. A funeral mass will be Friday March 11, 2016 at 11:30 a.m. at St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church in Peoria. Additional visitation will be one hour prior to the services. Fr. Dustin Schultz will officiate.Entombment will be in Resurrection Mausoleum.
