Gene was born on April 17, 1936 in Peoria, IL to Marvin and Ona Pearl (Short) Ehrlich. He married Jeannie Rae Long on December 29, 1960. She preceded him in death on July 3, 1985. He later married Shirley Ann Nicholas on November 21, 1992 and she also preceded him in death, as well as his parents and one brother, David Ehrlich.
Surviving are his children, Tara (Daniel) Keyes of Edelstein, IL, Julie (Todd) Price of Morton, IL and Daniel (Tamara) Ehrlich of Winnetka, CA; his grandchildren, Jason (Christina) Silva, Nick Baldwin, Alexa (Trevor) Black, Drew Price, Randy Ehrlich and Jesse Ehrlich; three great-grandchildren, Brendyn and Savannah Silva and Harper Black; and one brother, Michael Ehrlich of Englewood, CO.
Gene worked for Maple City Stamping Company and later owned several businesses in the area, Ehrlich Manufacturing, Banana Bay Billiards as well as a scrap yard company in Pekin. He was a member of the Creve Coeur Club. Gene enjoyed fishing, playing pool and especially playing and teaching golf. He also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Cremation rites will be accorded through Davison-Fulton Woolsey-Wilton Funeral Home in Peoria. In lieu of a traditional visitation or service, Gene's children ask that family and friends join them for a Celebration of Life at The Lariat in Peoria on Monday, May 11 from 5-7 P.M.
