PEORIA - Robert John Workman, age 79, of Peoria passed away on Friday, Oct. 24, 2014, at UnityPoint Health-Methodist in Peoria.Robert was born Feb. 8, 1935, in Peoria to Charles F. and Catherine T. (Wolshag) Workman. He married Mary Elizabeth Casterton on April 18, 1981. She preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Judy Kruse; and five brothers and sisters, Catherine Lines-Sullivan, Charles Workman, Margaret Clauson, Bertha Bryant and Joseph Workman.Surviving are his daughter, Brenda Matanao of Lakewood, Wash.; three granddaughters, Trina Matanao of Ontario, Ore., Angela Matanao of Graham, Wash., and Lisa Matanao of Lakewood, Wash.; one grandson, Michael Kruse of Arkansas; his sister, Josephine Pillman of Chillicothe; and several nieces and nephews.Robert worked in construction for the Laborers Local 165 for 50 years. He leaves a legacy of passion and commitment for military and civic services. He was a Gold Circle member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and was nominated for outstanding service and loyalty at the American Legion. Robert was a bronze leader in the Commanders Club of Disabled Veterans and an active member of the Eagles Club. He also participated in Arbor Day activities by planting trees and supporting conservation efforts. Cremation rites will be accorded and a memorial visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 8, 2014, at Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel in Peoria.
