He was born March 24, 1947 in Peoria to Robert and LaVonne (Eis) Murphy Sr. Robert married Nancee Abel on September 25, 1971, she passed away May 19, 1999.
Robert was also preceded in death by his parents; his son, Joseph Murphy; his daughter, Carie Murphy; sister, Beverly Ralston and brother-in-law, Denny Ralston.
He is survived by his siblings, Sherry (John) Harris, Mickie (Steve) Wenger, Mike (Pam) Murphy and Pat (Kim) Murphy; several nieces and nephews and his good friends Jaye and Vickie Mallicoat.
Robert proudly served his country in the United States Navy.
After his military service, he joined Caterpillar Inc., where he worked as a machine repairman for 30 years, and becoming a valued member of the 974 union before retiring in 2001.
Robert was a man of many passions. He had an extraordinary talent for building extensive LEGO setups, showcasing his creativity and patience. A lifelong Chicago Cubs fan, he found joy in cheering for his favorite team.
He was a devoted member of Grace Presbyterian Church, where he found community and purpose.
Above all, Robert was a man of kindness and generosity. He had a good heart, always ready to lend a helping hand or offer a kind word.
He cherished his family deeply, spending countless hours creating memories that will last a lifetime.
Cremation rites have been accorded, a graveside service will be held Monday, October 28, 2024, 11a.m. at Swan Lake Memory Gardens.
Memorial contributions may be made in Robert’s name to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
