He was born to Vera and Manzell Lawson Sr., in Raymond, Miss. He converted and confessed his life to Jesus Christ at an early age.
Robert worked many years at Caterpillar and General Tire until he retired.
He enjoyed working on cars, gardening, traveling and dancing.
Robert was loved and will be missed by many.
He leaves behind several loved ones: six daughters, Linda Owens, Deborah Owens, Gloria Owens, Janice Lawson, Robbie Lawson, Loretta Lawson all of Peoria; one son, Steven Owens of Peoria; five brothers, Manzell (Joanne) Lawson Jr., Andrew (Shirley) Lawson both of Peoria, George Lawson of Chicago, John K. Lawson of Vicksburg, Miss., Richard (Lisa) Lawson of Raymond, Miss.; seven sisters, Willie Lee Campbell, Cornelius Lawson-Champion and Patricia Lawson all of Chicago; Shelly (Glen) McGee of Peoria, Bessie (J.C.) Campbell of Clinton, Miss., Laura (David) Mason and Faye Lawson-Scott of Jackson, Miss.; 28 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Robert was preceded in death by his wife, Nola B. Lawson; his parents, Vera and Manzell Lawson Sr.; step-mother, Annie Bell Lawson; one brother, L.C. Lawson; one sister, Bobby Jean Lawson; and four great-grandchildren.
The family would like to show appreciation to his loving neighbor John, Methodist Home Health and Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel.
Homecoming ceremony will be held Saturday, March 24, 2012, at noon, at Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 305 S. Madison Park Terrace. The Rev. Alphonso Lyons, Jr., will officiate and the Rev. Richard Somner will give the words of encouragement. Visitation will be one hour prior to the ceremony. The repass will be held at the church.
Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery. Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
